After three months of a full-scale military invasion of Russia on the territory of independent Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin has so far expressed no desire to negotiate peace with Kyiv. This was stated by Pentagon President John Kirby, quoted by UNIAN.
Kirby also noted that Putin has so far failed to achieve any strategic goals in the war with Ukraine.
“He did not take away Ukraine’s sovereignty – on the contrary, he showed Ukrainians how important independence really is and they are fighting for it every day.
He did not take over the capital and did not decapitate the government. He did not take over any large Ukrainian city except Mariupol, “Kirby explained.
At the same time, according to Kirby, Putin is not ready for negotiations and the world should not expect to have them in the near future.
„Putin can do the right thing here and now: to withdraw troops and sit at the negotiating table with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and negotiate in good faith. There seems to be no hope for such negotiations at the moment, “Kirby said.
“Putin has shown no interest in a diplomatic agreement. He has shown that he is ready to continue the war in Donbass: he continues to gather troops, withdraw equipment, carry out air strikes in the smaller territory of Ukraine and others, “the Pentagon spokesman added.
