The Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL) have announced the signing of a new contract with Latvian striker Teodors Blugers.
The one-way contract will be signed by 2023. The seasonal salary of the Latvian national hockey player will be 2.2 million dollars, which is three times higher compared to his previous contract. In each of the previous two seasons, Blugers earned 750 thousand dollars.
“Theodore proved himself to be a versatile two-way center striker and a great minority player. He is a valuable hockey player for our team, “commented Penguins general manager Ron Hextol. This move shows that Pittsburgh is counting on a Latvian and he will most likely be included in the list of protected hockey players before the enlargement draft.
Last season, Blugers scored 22 (7 + 15) points in 43 major tournament games, repeating his performance record in the NHL. In the six “play-offs”, Theodor was left without points. For the Latvian, it was the third season in the NHL, with 140 matches and 22 assists in his main tournament, as well as 11 games in the Stanley Cup with one goal.
In the 2012 draft, “Penguins” chose the Latvian in the second round with the 52nd number. The Latvian has been playing in the Pittsburgh club system since 2015/2016. seasons, while 2018/2019. In the season, the striker made his debut in the NHL.
