New York City drew 1-1 away against New England in the Leagues Cup Round of 32, and qualified after winning 7-6 in the penalty shootout. When the match played in Massachusetts was tied 0-0, Uruguayan Santiago Rodriguez opened the scoring with a majestic penalty finish. The former Nacional player chipped the ball over the rival goalkeeper after 34 minutes.

On a rainy night, Santiago Rodriguez opened the scoring from the penalty spot (after a VAR review) and converted to give NYCFC a lead in the 35th minute, but the Revs responded almost immediately, with Brandon Bye splitting the New York City defense with a cross that was deflected in by Bobby Wood to level the score at 1-1 in the 40th minute.
The difference between advancing or ending the Leagues Cup run was decided in a penalty shootout, where New York City converted all seven of its shots (including another by Santi Rodriguez)while New England’s Mark-Anthony Kaye hit the crossbar.
In the round of 16, New York City will face Tigres of Mexico.
