the Pays-Haut launches its 100 km march

“We started by offering classic walks of 5, 10, 15 km. Then, we did 30 and 42 km. This is where Belgian hikers told us about the 100 km. There are quite a few such courses out there. We liked the idea, but in terms of organization, it was a heavy burden for our small group of Randonneurs du Pays de l’Orne. Roger Jacquot, president of the association affiliated with the French Hiking Federation, then put the idea aside. It is the creation of the Intercommunal House of Leisure and Tourism Orne Lorraine (Miltol) in 2019 that will allow the initiative to see the light of day. Well almost. “This big march was planned for 2020, but the Covid wanted it otherwise…” In the end, it is not one, but three marches that are on the program for this 1re OLC loop; the other two with a 50 km course.

Trail runners and people who have never walked!

For the 100 km, seasoned walkers will arrive on Friday May 20 at 8 p.m. at the Solan leisure center in Moineville for the start. The route, mainly through fields and forests, will cross the towns of Homécourt, Val de Briey, Conflans-en-Jarnisy, Ville-sur-Yron, Batilly, among others, before arriving in Moineville. “At a speed of around 5 km/h, it will take about twenty hours. About fifteen refreshment points will line the route.

For the 50 km at night, the departure is also from Solan in Moineville on May 20 at 8 p.m. The finish line will be at the Salle du Pâquis in Conflans-en-Jarnisy. The route will be identical, but in the opposite direction, for the walkers of the 50 km day. The departure will take place this time on Saturday, May 21 at 7 a.m. “If the circuit does not present any particular difficulty, you must above all be able to go the distance”, smiles Marilyne Nicollet, in charge of tourist development at Miltol and OLC. Hundreds of registrations have already been registered. “We have both trail runners who want to use the course as training and people who have never walked! They challenge themselves. “Shuttles will pick up those who have overestimated the power of their calves…
