A woman was arrested on charges of attempted murder following an incident in the southwestern city of Mannheim on Tuesday evening, reports The Guardian.
Police and prosecutors said the suspect allegedly turned off the ventilator for the woman’s lungs and then turned it off again later in the evening, despite staff saying the patient needed the ventilator.
In a joint statement released by the Mannheim public prosecutor’s office and the Mannheim police, it is stated that the woman turned off the ventilator before eight in the evening because she was “disturbed by the noise coming from the oxygen device”.
The 79-year-old patient needed to be resuscitated, authorities said, and although her life was not in danger, she still needed intensive care.
The suspect was placed in custody on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing.
