Brekte is one of the most visible and discussed young generation artists, a nominee for the most prestigious art award in Latvia – “Purvītis Awards”, a winner of the public media award “Kilograms of Culture 2021” in the category “Surprise”, a lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts.

In the official design of the Rimi Riga Marathon, Brekte has included his running associations, playing memories of running away from a wandering four-legged friend, while the artist intended the running medal as an amulet that protects from evil and darkness, gives strength to a new day and creative power. Medals-amulets will be given to all participants of the Rimi Riga Marathon – the largest in size will be presented to the winners of the marathon distance, but the smallest and sweetest – to the participants of the Children’s Day.

“It has always been said that runners have something to hide, because they also run when they run. When creating shirts, I thought as if I were running. Where would I run from, where would I go? My first memories of this activity are with stray dogs chasing me. Thinking in today’s context, we immediately have associations with our disease, I would like to get away from it and everything that follows from it. The time I was running would definitely be night because I am the Prince of Darkness. As the footsteps echoed, I ran through dark and empty streets, alternating with dimly lit crossroads, abandoned houses, small gardens and bridges, leading along the convent.

Avoiding the wandering zombies, overcoming the obstacle course, which would be fences, pits and puddles of various sizes, which I would overcome as a skillful water spider, echoing the sounds of hell in the distance, the roar of the wings and the darkness of the wings, I would meet a mystical creature. When darkness leaves, the first cocks would sing as the light weaves. Lifting the sign in the air, I would feel how this amulet – the embodiment of the creative power of the universe, the center of space, the all-encompassing eye of light – would give strength to a new day and the challenges it will bring, ”comments Christian Brecht.

The origins of the official design collection of the “Rimi” Riga Marathon can be traced back to 2008, when the visual solution of the advertising campaign of the artist Gints Apsītis continued its story on the official running shirt. Since then, every year the creation of the design of the official running shirt of the marathon is entrusted to one of the well-known artists in Latvia. Among them are Andris Vītoliņš, Ieva Iltnere, Ritums Ivanovs, Elita Patmalniece, Ella Krugļanska, Krišs Salmanis, Ilmārs Blumbergs, Raimonds Staprāns, Anna Heinrihsone, Maija Kurševa, Gustavs Klucis, MARE & ROLS and Jānis Šneiders.
