Chisinau, Republic of Moldova (ots/PRNewswire) – The Parliament of Moldova has passed the Law on Information Technology Parks (No. 77/2016), ushering in a new chapter for the country’s thriving technology sector. This landmark decision will extend the operational life of the Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP.md) from 10 to 20 years, as the State maintains the guarantee of the single tax of 7% until 2035 and the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to promoting a robust IT environment.
Since its inception, MITP has been a catalyst for Moldova’s burgeoning tech industry, which generates 5% of the country’s GDP. In 2023 alone, more than 400 new companies were founded and 1,900 new jobs were created in MITP, making an important contribution to the national economy. Moldova’s IT industry, which pays the highest salaries in the national economy, is a testament to the sector’s vitality and MITP plays a key role in driving this growth.
The amendment promises to further strengthen the park’s ability to attract investment and promote technological innovation. “The extension is a testament to Moldova’s commitment to the technology sector. “It gives us the stability and confidence we need to invest and grow here,” said George Teodorescu, global head of risk and compliance and regional director of Mixbook, a resident representative of MITP.
MITP currently hosts over 1,600 IT companies, including more than 230 foreign-invested companies, and has played a key role in making Moldova an attractive technology hub. The United States, Romania and Germany top the investment list, but significant contributions also come from other parts of the world.
Natalia Donțu, Administrator of MITP, commented on the amendment: “This is more than a change in the law, it is a strategic step to strengthen the Republic of Moldova as a first-class destination for the production of products and the provision of high value-added services in the region . This aligns with our vision to foster an innovative ecosystem in which every participant plays a significant role in our shared growth and success.”
This move is expected to generate significant international interest and place Moldova on the map as a competitive and innovative technology country. It reflects the country’s increasing reputation as a hub for tech talent and innovation that will make an important contribution to the global IT landscape.
