The Parkstad Limburg Jury Award 2023: Celebrating the Dutch Mountain Film Festival and its Honorees

Parkstad Limburg Jury Award 2023

The name of the festival makes it clear: it is the “Dutch Mountain Film Festival” and not the “Dutch Mountaineering Film Festival”, so the audience and the jury can enjoy everything that has to do with “Bergen ” has to do.

Throughout history, people have been displaced time and again, sometimes in search of better living conditions for themselves and/or their families, but sometimes out of sheer necessity. The mountainous regions hold a special place in this story as they are both natural barriers and hiding places. The mountains stand as a symbol of solidarity and isolation.

According to the jury No dogs or italians allowed It’s also a typical mountain film because it’s about people who live with, in and next to the mountains. Descended from people whose lives were shaped by the mountains and hardship, the filmmaker has found a unique way to honor their heritage through his creativity. The jury was impressed by the film’s playful approach to the epochal genre. It reminded her of a number of films in this genre – classics like Gone with the Wind, War and Peace, A River Rises from the Middle, 1900

No dogs or italians allowed is in the tradition of monumental drama. But it does this with the help of puppet theater. It doesn’t even hide all the details and methods of technical sophistication, but deliberately keeps them in the view of the audience. The length of this film certainly means that it took years to complete this work of art and for all these reasons we think it is highly recommended as such.

The Parkstad Limburg Jury Award is sponsored by the Stadsregio Parkstad Limburg.
