A 27-year-old man grabbed a bladed weapon and stabbed his adoptive parents in Ojakkala, Vihti, on Monday evening, August 26. The father died of his injuries at the scene, and the seriously injured mother was rushed to hospital.
Several calls were made to the emergency center about the carnage. Director of Investigation, Crime Commissioner Rauli Salonen says that the parents fled to seek help from neighboring houses. The mother of the family also managed to call for help while escaping.
According to Salonen, the life-threateningly wounded mother of the family has since been discharged from the hospital, and the police have been able to interview her.
The case is being investigated as homicide and attempted homicide. According to Salonen, the investigation did not reveal any circumstances that would suggest that the man had planned the act of blood in advance.
During the past month, the police have received a “semblance of a report” on the course of events. The man was in the apartment owned by his parents with permission. He sometimes spent long periods there.

The motive for the dark act is still shrouded in mystery, as the man has not agreed to comment on the events any further.

The district court of Länsi-Uusimaa imprisoned the 27-year-old man on September 2. The police have not heard from the man since then.

The investigation continues with a technical investigation, which the police hope will also confirm the suspected instrument. So far, it is unclear whether the man brought the bladed weapon with him or found it in his parents’ apartment.

The man has been in pretrial detention for more than three weeks now. He has not demanded to be released or undergo a mental health examination.
The man has a criminal record. Currently, he is also suspected of another serious act of violence: the man is suspected of stabbing his childhood friend in the head. Kantola’s colleagues published an obituary on the Aalto University website a few days after his death.
– We remember Raimo as a kind and considerate person who always had time for conversations with colleagues, the colleagues wrote.
– It was typical that he had thought about the topic for a long time and wanted to challenge his interlocutor to look for possible gaps in his own reasoning.
Kantola’s longtime colleague Jose Costa Requena remembered the murdered professor to Iltalehte as a calm and approachable man.
– He did not deserve such a fate. Especially from his own family, Costa Requena said.
– He was a calm and conciliatory man who tried to find solutions, whatever the problem.

Kantola was known in Vihti as a benefactor. He and his wife actively participated in volunteer work, in the Kinnas action group supporting the victims of the Ukrainian war.
