The researcher at the Center for Applied Ecology of the Litoral (Cecoal), belonging to Conicet and the National University of the Northeast (Unne), Juan José Neiff, again criticized the fishing in the Paraná River, in the context of the water crisis. He made a comparison with an anemic body, which is asked to donate blood.
In an interview, he commented that this extreme downspout has two types of impact: one on natural systems and the other on social systems. In the first case, he indicated that the impact on fauna and vegetation in itself is not so great because, in general, they are adapted to go through periods of downturns and floods. “However, the problem comes because society does not respect some issues that hurt it in periods of scarcity. For example, even though the river is in crisis, it continues to fish. It is as if you force a person with anemia to donate blood ”, he pointed out.
It is not the first time that the ecohydrology specialist has made a strong criticism of the fishing ban, both for Corrientes and for the other provinces that share the banks of the Paraná. Together with other scientists, previously, they requested a unified closure, to protect natural resources.
In any case, he made a reservation among artisanal fishermen, “who know where and how much they can fish” without putting the resource at risk, and other activities such as fishing tourism. In that sense, he stressed that the province of Corrientes suspended the goldfish fishing tournament, which is a traditional activity, but other provinces have not.
