In February, the news spread widely in the public space that emergency medical paramedic IP and colleague RJ of the Gargžda primary health care center are suspected of taking a bribe of 100 euros from a patient. After starting the pre-trial investigation, the officers found that they did not commit this criminal act. A doctor appealed to the “Banga” editorial office, asking to tell the truth about this incident that robbed the employees of their honor.

The drunkard complained of pain
This story confirms how stressful, unpredictable the work of emergency medical workers is: when they go to a call, they do not know what awaits them.
In the late evening of February, the paramedic IP of the Gargžda primary health care center went with her colleague RJ to the Gargžda MP. However, no one welcomed those who came to help – a dog was barking in the yard, so they did not dare to go there. Only after ringing the gate bell did the spouses appear. According to the paramedic IP, they did not tie the dog, the aggressive woman somehow instructed the man to go to the ambulance, and he asked. Both with their colleague realized that they were drunk – they did not hide it. The woman got into the car first, demanded help from the man and interfered with work with her shouts. It was not immediately possible to ask her out. MP complained of back pain because someone beat him, kicked him. Indeed, the doctor noticed bruises, abrasions, and swelling. The man admitted that he had been admitted to the hospital, but then it did not hurt. The man said he had no pain medication and demanded an injection.
The paramedic found out that he had been sick since February 9. until the 12th ambulances were called every day, and their conclusions recorded that MPs always found drunk people. And that night, he stated that he drank 5 cans of beer, although the emergency workers thought it was more.

They threw hundreds in the car
The paramedic injected the patient with painkillers, and his wife not only told him what to do, but also insulted him. The driver, RJ, sat in the car and did not intervene. After providing help, the patient pulled out several 100 euro bills from somewhere, saying that he would pay for the service. When he heard that it was not necessary, he still waved the money and wanted to give it to the driver, but he told him to get out of the car. The man started throwing bills that fell between the seats. The driver collected them and returned them to the man. On the way back, the paramedics noticed a 100-euro banknote placed on top of the ambulance’s suitcase. They decided not to return to the intoxicated patient in the MP – at the end of the work, they were going to hand over the money, as well as other items found in the car, to the senior GMP community nurse, as it is stated in the paramedic’s job description. He put a hundred-euro note in the compartment near the steering wheel and left for the next call. “If we had wanted to appropriate this money, we would have been able to exchange it and share it, but there were no such thoughts,” assured the driver RJ
However, when they returned from the call, they were met by police officers at the Emergency Center station.

Suspicions have been brought against Gargždiškis
Gargždiškis admitted to MP police investigators that he called an ambulance when he was drunk, because his bruised back hurt. Both he and his wife drank alcohol, but he drank more – he drank a pint of vodka every day. When the medics arrived, he said he went to the ambulance and had about 1,000 euros in his pockets. After the examination, the paramedic was asked to administer painkillers, but she refused because he was intoxicated. Then he offered to pay for the medicine, but she told him to see a family doctor. The MP still asked for painkillers, and what he thought was probably an overzealous paramedic administered the medicine, but didn’t ask for anything in return. He remembered that he started throwing money in the car to pay, but the driver collected it and gave it to him – the ambulance workers did not take the money. He didn’t remember exactly, but maybe he put a 100 euro bill on the seat to reward the doctors for their honest work. According to the MP, the hundredth is not a bribe, it should be a significantly larger amount, for example 1,000 euros. He testified that he knew that bribery was punishable by criminal liability.
The MP told the investigators that after receiving emergency medical help that evening, he drank a pint of vodka at home and then noticed that 300 euros were missing. He immediately thought that the doctors took them out of his pocket and appropriated them. So immediately notified the General Help Center. They told the arriving police officers that the medics did not treat or provide help, so they left a bribe.
MP’s breathalyzer showed a blood alcohol level of 2.46 that late in the evening. drunkenness
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the paramedic IP and the driver RJ did not demand or provoke a bribe – no criminal act was committed. This was confirmed by the pre-trial investigation judge of the Klaipėda District Court of the Klaipėda City Chamber.
Pre-trial investigations have been started – suspicions have been brought against the MP for making a false complaint and giving a bribe.
