The pandemic of the new coronavirus has killed at least 377,213 people worldwide since its appearance in December in China, according to an assessment established by the AFP from official sources Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.

More than 6,320,480 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 2,662,300 are now considered cured.
This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have only limited screening capacity.
Since the count carried out the day before at 9:00 p.m. HB, 3,774 new deaths and 101,145 new cases have been recorded worldwide. The countries with the most new deaths are the United States with 986 new deaths, Brazil (623) and the United Kingdom (324).
The United States, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, is the country most affected in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 105,644 deaths for 1,820,523 cases. At least 458,231 people were declared cured.
After the United States, the most affected countries are the United Kingdom with 39,369 deaths for 277,985 cases, Italy with 33,530 deaths (233,515 cases), Brazil with 29,937 deaths (526,447 cases), and France with 28,940 deaths (188,322 cases, balance revised Tuesday by the authorities).
Among the countries hardest hit, Belgium is the one that deplores the highest number of deaths compared to its population, with 82 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Spain (58), the United Kingdom (58), Italy (55), and France (44).
China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic began in late December, officially counted a total of 83,022 cases (5 new between Monday and Tuesday), including 4,634 deaths (0 new), and 78,315 recoveries.
Europe totaled Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. HB 179,939 deaths for 2,182,292 cases, the United States and Canada 113,091 deaths (1,912,916 cases), Latin America and the Caribbean 52,889 deaths (1,057,145 cases), the Asia 16,986 deaths (578,716 cases), the Middle East 9,763 deaths (423,904 cases), Africa 4,414 deaths (156,916 cases), and Oceania 131 deaths (8,591 cases).
This assessment was carried out using data collected by AFP offices from the competent national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO). Due to corrections by the authorities or late publication of data, the 24h increase figures may not correspond exactly to those published the day before.
