The Painting application received two handy functions
It can switch to dark mode and zoom smoothly
The update is available in Windows 11
The Paint application is one of the unshakable stalwarts of the Windows world – it first appeared in 1985 in Windows 1.0 as a rival to MacPaint from the rival Macintosh, and has survived until today. In the era of Windows 10, it seemed that Microsoft would put it on the back burner as it introduced the more modern 3D Painting, but users did not let the original application be taken away. While the newer app doesn’t enjoy a big influx of news, the Redmond folks added two new features to the classic Painting this week.
Dark mode and smooth zoom
Microsoft saves a lot of work with Paint maintenance by separating the app from the system and can update it continuously through its app store. Just one such update was released this week (version 11.2304.30.0) and brought two useful functions. She is the first of them dark mode support. If you’re interested in it, it’s as simple as tapping the gear button in the top right and choosing from one of three options – light, dark, and the one the entire system is switched to.

The second news is smooth zoom support. Until now, zooming in Painting was done in quite large increments of tens of percent, which was not exactly convenient. After the update, you can choose exactly the zoom level that suits you with the help of a slider or numerical input. Additionally, there’s a new “fit to app window” button that will stretch the painted image sideways so that it’s visible at its full size.
Microsoft first tested the changes to the Paint app in the Insider program, and now they should be available in the release version of the system. However, Microsoft’s chief program manager Brandon LeBlanc said on the X network that the update is being rolled out gradually and not all users have yet received it.
Assuming by stable you mean retail/non-Insider – it’s rolling out but not yet available to everyone yet so your VM isn’t being weird, just not lucky enough yet to get it.

So if you don’t have the mentioned news in Malování yet, it’s enough to wait a few days/weeks.
