The future King would then rush to his dying mother’s bedside, only to then distract his mind together with his wife Camilla thanks to an outdoor activity. Charles III in fact left the baton to his sister Anna, and would have dabbled with her mushroom picking near Birkhal, his Balmoral residence. Subsequently, he would have set off again towards the Queen’s house, but his assistant would have received the fateful phone call during the journey, and would have convinced him to stop driving. The orderly would then call him for the first time “Your Majesty“, and Charles III immediately including that his mother had just passed away.

The “Daily Mail” also shared with readers Charles III’s immediate reaction to the chilling news. He grabbed the phone while still in the car and said softly: “We’re almost there“.
Along the way, he would eventually attempt to also contact his son Harry, exiled from Buckingham Palace for months and permanently resident in Montecito, California, but in vain. The scion, in fact, was already flying to join his family, and would only have found out about his grandmother’s death once he landed in the United Kingdom.
