In 1965, the grandfather Pagès bought a truck and created in the neighboring village of Le Cailar, transports of the same name. A few years later, his son Jean-Paul took over and made the business thrive, going from five to fifteen trucks today. Being a little too cramped, he decided at the beginning of the year, for practical reasons, to settle in Vauvert.
“We wanted to evolve in a larger space, more suited to our volume of work. We contacted La Segard through Katy Guyot to find out if there was any free land and luck smiled on us, because he there was one of 4,300m², where we settled by building an office, a workshop and a store and on which we could accommodate all of our trucks “, says Sébastien, who will soon take over from his father, who will retire in December. This will be the third generation at the head of a family business which mainly transports liquid food, but which can also haul construction materials.
In addition to the fact that it is larger, the fact of getting closer to its main customers, which are Finedoc and vinegar, also in the industrial zone, was decisive in the choice of the municipality. A business that could well grow even further.
Two trucks will be equipped with bio fuel
“We can go up to four or five more drivers to adapt to the demand of our customers, but probably not more” says the one who also attaches great importance to ecology.
“We already have trucks with reduced fuel consumption and much less polluting than before. In the near future, we are going to equip two of our trucks with bio fuel to fully integrate into the ecological transition. The problem is that” there are still few service stations that are equipped on the roads where we transport, that is to say the Côte d’Azur, Italy or Spain. “
Since the Covid and the various lockdowns that followed, people have realized the importance of the trucks that have constantly supplied supermarkets with products and Pagès transport has during this time transported alcohol a lot for the manufacture of gel. A way for them to have contributed to the near end, we hope in any case, of the epidemic.
