“Le Velay païen, histoire et mythologie” (Editions de la Flandonnière) by Bruno Mestre has just been published. A conference by young vellave author is scheduled for Saturday October 2 at 3 p.m. in Le Puy-en-Velay.
Prefaced by the president of the Société de Mythologie française, this book offers the inhabitants of Velay – and their visitors – an anthology of the legends and myths of the country and the means of approaching them both literally and figuratively. This is Bruno Mestre’s point in this book, which is as well illustrated as it is elegantly written.
Son of the Vellavian country, the author was keen to pay homage to this land by writing a deeply regionalist and contemporary opus.
He discovered archaeological sites
Born in 1996 in Puy-en-Velay, graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP) and the Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Bruno Mestre has been passionate about the history of Velay since his childhood. A man of the field, as well as of archives, he is at the origin of the discovery of several archaeological sites such as the Gallo-Roman theater of Ruessium or the castle mound of Bonneval.
He also conducts research on paganism, its survivals in Christianity and, more generally, on primitive religions.
