The owner of the Skylink and freeSAT operators is focusing on the Astra 3B satellite, preparing an offensive of channels in HD resolution

The French group Canal +, which is the new owner of the Skylink and freeSAT services, will in the future focus exclusively on the position of 23.5 degrees east, ie the Astra 3B satellite, in the area of signal distribution. The customers of the second operator will thus try to move non-violently from the Thor satellite to 1 degree west with various advantages. In one of the traditional conversations for the server Parabola.cz this was stated by Jaromír Glisník, a member of the Board of Directors of M7 Group. It is through it that Canal + controls both operators.

In the long run, of course, it doesn’t make sense for Canal + to offer programs from two satellite positions for one market, in addition to one service in the eastern and the other in the western orbit. According to Glisník, surface redirection of antennas does not make sense. The end of parallel distribution can be expected at the earliest in 2022. However, the representative of Canal + in the Czech Republic reassures customers: “It is premature to talk about downloading programs. A specific plan does not yet exist. ”The coding of the freeSAT operator will also be involved on Astra 3B.

The new owner of both operators is well aware of the huge competition of paid services in our market, so he chose a clear strategy – opening a new data capacity to expand the program offer. “The expansion of capacity will serve to improve our services. A number of programs broadcast now in standard definition will be switched to HD and new programs will be gradually added, “stated Jaromír Glisník. Content exclusivity should also play an important role in the new business strategy.
