Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturnes are one of the most beautiful pages of piano music in musical literature. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the nocturne had to be performed at night under the open sky, and Chopin was one of the first to give the nocturne the contours of a concert piece. They have dreaminess, melancholy, sadness, and it was in this genre that Chopin’s talent as a melodist was most vividly manifested. Chopin expanded the emotional capacity of this genre: drama and tension sometimes appear in his nocturnes.

The concert will present the Nocturne in D major op.27 n.2 by Frédéric Chopin and 12 Studies for piano op.25.
