Jakarta – Internal Medicine Specialist from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia dr. Robert Sinto reminded people who have received the COVID-19 vaccination not to be careless in carrying out health protocols.
“The vaccine alone is not enough to make us safe without the support of other health factors,” Robert said in a webinar on Saturday.
Vaccines do not necessarily provide 100 percent protection for people who receive them, because the body will need time to form immunity. In addition, the efficacy of vaccines in research is not 100 percent, moreover, new variants of the virus always appear. It is also unknown how long the optimal immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine and the body’s ability to form immunity are influenced by many things.
“The effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine is influenced by the adequacy of multivitamins,” said Robert.
He quoted the President of the Indian Institute of Public Health Srinath Reddy, vaccines only provide antigen stimulation and how the human body reacts depends on the nutritional status which varies from person to person. In order to get optimal vaccine efficacy, everyone is advised to get a complete multivitamin containing vitamins A, B, C, D, E and minerals.
“We must remember that the pandemic is not over, we must remain vigilant,” he said
Vaccines alone are not enough to protect themselves from COVID-19, a healthy lifestyle and hygiene habits such as washing hands with soap and running water, wearing masks, practicing coughing or sneezing etiquette, avoiding crowds, consuming more nutritious food and getting enough rest need to be implemented.
He advised the public to stay active even at home. Don’t forget to stretch every two hours after sitting in front of your device all day. Perform static stretches by holding them for 10-15 seconds.
Aerobic exercise at home can be done by walking briskly around the house or going up and down stairs for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day. You can also dance or do aerobics with a YouTube video guide or jump rope. If you want to train muscle strength, try doing movements such as squatting-standing, lunges and push up.
Robert reminded that exercise should be done in sufficient portions, not too little or too much. Moderate-intensity physical exercise can increase the body’s immunity, while high-intensity exercise can lower the body’s immunity so that the risk of infection increases.
