In April 2021, ‘iconic measures’ must be introduced to make exercise a normal part of the day again. So says Erik Scherder, professor of neuropsychology at the Free University of Amsterdam.

Scherder made his statements in the L1 program on Wednesday Evening Guests: Corona in Limburg.
Workgroup
Scherder is part of a working group that aims to make exercise more part of society. Scherder cannot say what concrete measures are needed for this. “The ideas are not yet on paper.” Nevertheless, the professor gives a few examples. “Interrupting sitting during work or employees who go outside to exercise during their working hours. But this is also possible for the elderly in the nursing home, so we will look over the entire life course to see how we can achieve that it is not something special. more is to move. ”
pandemic
According to Scherder, an existing pandemic has mixed with the current corona pandemic. “That pandemic is called ‘physical inactivity.’ It is an official WHO pandemic, identified in 2012, and it kills 5.3 million people a year. We have never heard people about it in all those years. And that pandemic is flowing. now turn into the corona pandemic. Let this be a wake-up call now. ”
Education
Hans Wiltenburg, a former handball player and now a physical education teacher, believes that more attention should be paid to exercise in education as well. “There is more and more online education, which means that students exercise less and we also sit in the classroom a lot. We should learn more in motion and sit for less time.”
Wiltenburg also has some ideas. “Using standing tables or cycling behind your desk. You can also think of math lessons in the schoolyard.”
Scherder shares Wiltenburg’s view. “You can also solve math problems by jumping. In Limburg there are already ‘moving’ schools. Now you just have to make sure that it happens nationally.”
