The Oscars know this year’s nominations, Oppenheimer rules them

The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10. They announced their nominations on Tuesday.

On January 8, the Golden Globes were awarded, which in a way predicted this year’s trends even for the Oscar race. We wrote about this year’s Golden Globes here.

These trends were more or less confirmed by the Oscar nominations. Nolan’s magnificent Oppenheimer has the most, i.e. thirteen nominations, followed by Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Man with eleven nominations.

Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Blooming Moon has ten, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has eight nominations.

Everything about Oppenheimer can be found in Petr Koubský’s text.

Several European films entered the Oscar nominations this year, which have already received a certain response at festivals, for example the winner of the European Film Award, Justine Triet’s film Anatomie pádu, or Jonathan Glazer’s Zone of Interest, which was also shown in Cannes last year, and which is heading to Czech cinemas in mid-February.

In addition to Anatomy of a Fall and Zone of Interest, the South Korean film Past Lives, which we wrote about here, also entered the ten films nominated in the Best Film category.

In the acting categories, among others, Cillian Murphy from Oppenheimer and Bradley Cooper for Maestro, or Emma Stone from Poor People and Lily Gladstone from Killers of the Blooming Moon will compete. We wrote about Lily Gladstone after her victory at the Golden Globes here.

Most of the Oscar favorites have already been or can be seen in Czech cinemas (or on streaming platforms). Just this week, for example, the film Poor People by the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos opens in cinemas, since last year the main Oscar favorites Oppenheimer, Barbie and Killers of the Blooming Moon have also been in cinemas.

The Snow Brotherhood, the story of the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which was transporting a rugby team to Chile in 1972, is on Netflix from January 4. Maestro, a biopic about Leonard Bernstein by Bradley Cooper, has also been available on Netflix since November.
