The Osakidetza website is now operational for those over 60

From this monday those over 60 years old can request the appointment now to receive the third booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Such has been the interest among this age group in getting the third booster dose, that both channels have been crashed early in the morning by the thousands of people interested in getting their appointment for the vaccination.

However, the system it is already operational both for those over 70 and for those over 60, as Noticias Taldea Multimedia has learned. In this way, the Basque Department of Health has opened the two available routes also for this second age group and they can make their appointment to receive the booster dose through the Osakidetza website or by calling clinic that corresponds in each case.

Who is the third dose for?
To date, Osakidetza was administering the booster vaccine to people in residences, people with severe immunosuppression and people over 70 years of age. Starting Monday, people over 60 can also apply.

How to request an appointment?
You can make an appointment through the Osakidetza website or by calling your health center.

How long must have elapsed since the previous vaccinations?
These booster doses will be administered six months after the last vaccination, in the case of people who received Pfizer or Moderna; and in the case of those who received Astra-Zeneca, it can be administered from three months after the last dose.

What vaccine will be given as a booster dose?
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Public Health Commission indicate that mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) be used for this vaccination booster. To reinforce the immunity provided by the previous vaccination, it is equally effective to administer in this case a dose of Pfizer or a half dose of Moderna.

The greatest booster effect is seen with so-called “heterologous regimens”, that is, when these vaccines are administered to a person who has previously received a different vaccine. Osakidetza will offer, depending on availability, either of these two mRNA vaccines of similar composition, which are equally effective and safe. The equivalence of the two preparations does not justify responding to requests for one type of vaccine, since both are adequate.

Where will you get vaccinated?
At established intermediate points or at health centers. At the time of the appointment the place will be indicated.
