The popular shooter series Timesplitters is back on the agenda, after many years dormant. Publisher Deep Silver was able to reveal on Thursday that it has set up a new studio, which will be responsible for breathing new life into the series.
Nor is it anyone who takes on the job. According to Deep Silver, it has restored Free Radical – the original studio behind the Timesplitters games – and both Steve Ellis and David Doak, the brains behind the series. is on the team.
“To finally be able to confirm that the studio has come to life and that we have a plan for the next Timesplitters game is incredible,” Ellis said in a statement to IGN.
Deep Silver points out, however, that work on a new game has not yet begun. This is just the first step towards mapping a new Timesplitters future, and more information will be shared when the time comes.
Timesplitters first appeared in the year 2000, as a PlayStation 2 alternative to the Nintendo 64s GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect built on the formula, but the plans for a Timesplitters 4 went in the sink.
New hope was really ignited in 2018, when Koch Media – which owns Deep Silver – bought the rights to the series. The following year it became clear that Ellis had hung herself, but it would take another two years before fans could confirm that the series continues.
