Daugavgriva Fortress invites you to practice freedom of mind, listen to lectures and participate in various workshops, dancing and enjoying music.
The festival was once created to promote the development of Daugavgrīva Fortress as a cultural place and will take place for the fifth year this year. The program of the festival this weekend will be introduced by the event “Comet Academy”, the theme of which this year is “body”.
The unique Daugavgriva fortress on the left bank of the Daugava River is the largest 17th century fortress in Latvia. Part of the barracks and warehouses, as well as the powder ton, are still located here. In order to promote the development of the cultural place in the long-abandoned fortress, the open-air music and art festival “Komēta” takes place here in the middle of the summer of the fifth year. Currently, the territory is still being cleaned.
“Last year, by accidentally digging up some garbage, activists of the Bolderāja group cut a stone on top of it, and there were information that during the Soviet era, all the stones had been taken to construction. Consequently, it was not sought whether the road remained. But the section of more than 100 meters has already been exposed, which is the original 17th century road that connected various warehouses and dungeons, ”said one of the festival organizers Dāvis Kaņepe.
They are all original dungeons built by the Swedes in the 17th century. For example, a live music concert will take place at one of them called the “Wall of the Sun”.
The “Comet” festival will take place on the last weekend of July, but until then, starting from this Saturday, every weekend in the fortress will be able to attend events organized by the “Comet Academy” dedicated to the study of the human body.
Almost 21 hectares of the territory, which is almost 21 hectares in size, could accommodate almost 55 thousand visitors. However, the organizers of the festival in the fortress promise to create a small utopian country where people can enjoy art and music in the open air.
“We are a small festival, and we do not plan any more, and we will limit people. There will definitely be less than a thousand visitors. There will also be signs everywhere, because really, especially after the precedent of Tērbatas Street, we need to take into account that there will be controls and remind viewers that this is really serious and we have to follow those rules, especially at mass events, ”Kaņepe emphasized.
The events of the festival “Comet” in the Daugavgriva fortress, every weekend will invite visitors from July 25 to August 15.
