/ world today news/ The option to build the “Belene” NPP seems the most acceptable in terms of minimizing losses, according to energy expert Prof. Atanas Tasev.
On Tuesday, the government decided that NEC will repay its obligation under the international arbitration decision for the Belene NPP with help from the state budget. The Minister of Energy Temenuzka Petkova explained that the amount with interest is currently close to 629 million euros.
After Bulgaria paid for the manufactured Russian equipment for the Belene NPP, it becomes ours. The option of selling it turned out not to be particularly effective at this stage. Two options remain. The first is to continue the construction of the “Belene” site, and the second option is to use the equipment for the development of the 7th or possibly the 8th block of the Kozloduy NPP site.
The cheaper option with capitalization of what has been done so far and as a dowry in attracting a strategic investor is, of course, “Belene”, because we enter the project with about 1.3 billion BGN, as was said by Minister Petkova. What has been done so far plus the equipment, which, if exposed to the market without talking about selling, is actually already worth double at cost and market valuation. So we enter with a substantial dowry into a future joint venture or consortium, commented Prof. Tasev.
