Opportunities to purchase natural gas for district heating companies are currently very limited, said Valdis Vītoliņš, a member of the board of the Latvian Association of Heat Companies.

He explained that companies cannot afford to think about the costs of natural gas at the moment, the availability of this energy resource is a more pressing issue.
“District heating companies, and I am not talking about Latvenergo AS, are currently unable to buy gas, firstly, at a fixed price and, secondly, they do not have an offer for the entire heating season. This gas simply does not exist,” said Vītoliņš. with the fact that natural gas supplies from Russia have been suspended for some time.
Vītoliņš is also the Chairman of the Board of SIA Jūrmalas siltums. He said that last year the company received four offers for the purchase of natural gas, while this year only one has been received.
At the same time, it is also impossible to say that the situation with a shortage of natural gas will last for a long time, given that there is still time before the heating season. Therefore, in order to supply the region with natural gas, it is very important to successfully implement the Paldiski Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, said a member of the board of the Association of Heat Companies.
Vītoliņš also stated that heat energy companies are actively involved in the program, which envisages the replacement of gas boilers with other fuels, such as wood chips.
According to the representative of the Association of Heating Companies, this program will not affect the next season, because it takes longer to replace gas boilers – alternative fuel boilers could start operating next year, given that they have yet to be installed. At the same time, the high demand of companies, which far exceeds the supply, also poses a problem in this matter.
The Latvian Association of Heating Companies is a public professional organization, which unites district heating companies, manufacturers and suppliers of heating equipment and supplies, as well as separate individual members – energy experts.
