Take out tuxedos and evening dresses. Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the Cannes Film Festival will open after two years of editions marked by the Covid-19. For its 75th edition, chaired by Vincent Lindon, big names in American cinema are expected. On this occasion, the cinema UGC of Rosny 2 (Seine-Saint-Denis) will broadcast the opening ceremony live from the Palais des Festivals.
Palme d’Or pour Forest Whitaker
The ceremony will be streamed live from 7 p.m. It will be chaired by Virginie Efira. On the program: the awarding of the Palme d’Or to the Hollywood star Forest Whitaker, impeccable for his interpretation d’Amin Dada, in The Last King of Scotland (2007).
The actor also has a philanthropic side. Through his non-governmental organization Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, he intends in particular to “instruct the youth of Seine-Saint-Denis in mediation and conflict resolution techniques and in entrepreneurship”.
Just like in Cannes, the opening ceremony will be followed by the screening of the film Cut !by Michel Hazanavicius.
