The exhibition merges the boundaries between the real and the virtual, taking the viewer through the cultural and historical context. It aims to challenge our sensory perception by expanding the boundaries of the human sense world or “sensory” and revealing its connection to the world around it.
At the exhibition Augmented experience will be able to view the augmented reality works of art of four Latvian artists.
Researching historical materials and testimonies, Zane Zelmene’s augmented reality work Omnisence The landscapes of the Esplanade Park are being reconstructed at various times, from prehistory and the Middle Ages, when Mount Cube was located, to the 360 - degree spheres of the last century. Man has five senses with which he can feel the world. In metaphysics, on the other hand, a sixth sense is also attributed to a person, with which he is able to feel time and space from a completely different point of view. Today, this capability is being rediscovered through science and technology. The smartphone has become the human sixth sense, which helps to access the collective consciousness of humanity – to look into the past, present, as well as other virtual realities.
Sabine Schne at work Soil Mate explores the relationship between art, mythology and science. Soil encompasses our planet and is a vital element in sustaining life processes. There is an opinion that the Earth is an internally unified and thinking system consisting of millions of subsystems and can be called alive. This is Guy’s theory, named after the Greek goddess of the earth. The soil is part of the Earth, part of Gaia. Drawing inspiration from Stone Age Venus figures, the artist created a three-dimensional sculpture that is a version of Guy. It is covered with various types of soil recorded on the Esplanade, the site of a work of art.
In the work of Jurģis Peteris Familiar, but different The process of artificial intelligence (MI) training is fixed in the various stages of the author’s portrait, during which a synthetic image is created from scratch, which is inseparable from the original photographs of the author. Using an analogy with the process of human experience, it is believed that MI algorithms at a global level are becoming more aware and able to perform a given task and understand the environment around them. At a time when these invisible but all-encompassing technologies are responsible for more and more critical tasks – from credit history tests to military drone management – the question arises, involuntarily, when we will be able to start talking about a unified global artificial intelligence. or superintellect?
Rihards Vītols The forest is a work of art with a speculative view of the possible tree species of the future that would cover the Earth to maintain its natural balance. His work of art touches on his growing interest in the interaction between artificial intelligence and nature. By combining data repositories of different tree species, a collection of new tree species was created with the help of artificial intelligence. This new collection is an alternative, unimaginable, abstract and absurd simulation of the nature of the future. In the exhibition you can see some trees from this new species.
