The ONMT conquers the Japanese tourist market

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), as part of the diversification of its markets, is participating for the first time from September 26 to 29, 2024 in the Tourism Expo Japan 2024 show.

Organized since 2014 in Tokyo, the show is considered one of the largest international events dedicated to tourism, bringing together industry professionals, travel agencies, tourist destinations and companies in the sector, indicates the Office in a press release. Welcoming more than 1,265 exhibitors from more than 80 countries, Tourism Expo Japan offers an exceptional platform to position itself in the promising East Asian market, underlines the same source.

For its first participation in this essential exhibition for Asian markets, the ONMT is leading a delegation of tourism operators and sector players and is highlighting the tourist assets of the Morocco destination on a well-appointed 90 m2 stand.

More than 150,000 visitors are expected at this tourist event, including more than 15,000 professional visitors, thus constituting an opportunity for the ONMT to increase the visibility of the Morocco destination on the Japanese source market.

ONMT officials and Moroccan professionals will also meet representatives of JTB Corporation, one of the most influential TOs in Japan and internationally. Founded in 1912, the TO manages around 10 million travelers per year.

Meetings will also be held with major Japanese online travel agencies (OTAs) such as Rakuten Travel which has 30 million active users, Jalan.net, with 25 million active users and Ikkyu, a platform specialized in the segment luxury, having recorded three million reservations in 2023.

As part of the ONMT’s first participation in this major exhibition, the emphasis is placed on the digital aspect in view of the trends of Japanese tourists fond of online reservation platforms.

Japanese travelers’ preferences continue to evolve towards more personalized, longer stays and enriching experiences, while taking into account concerns related to safety and sustainability.

It is thus a question of offering to this Asian market which continues to grow, the multiple assets of the Morocco destination, in particular the cultural richness and the change of scenery offered by the different Moroccan tourist territories. It is also a question of highlighting air connectivity between Japan and Morocco via the hubs of the Middle East.

Through its first participation in the Tourism Expo Japan 2024 show, one of the largest trade shows in the region, the ONMT confirms its interest in a very promising Asian market for the Morocco destination.

This approach is part of the ONMT’s “Light in Action” action plan where several activations and operations are planned to strengthen Morocco’s visibility in high-potential markets.
