People who travel and foreigners who live in our territory are the most inconvenienced by this measure. “A number of us find it impossible or difficult to present an identity document corresponding to the name indicated on the pass. In my case, I have to bring out a 20-year-old passport because, following a change of nationality from Brazilian to Italian, my surname has been changed. While it included that of my mother and my father, it now only includes that of my father and it has changed spelling ”, explains Angelo, teacher-researcher at the University of Reims.
Health insurance confirms on its site “Ameli.fr” that this choice was guided by “The need to comply with European law”. For the French, the most recent identity documents indicate the surname.
