“The Ongoing Works on Poznań-Warsaw Railway Route: Updates on Completion and Travel Time Improvement”

The works started in 2017 and were supposed to last 2.5 years, but they are still ongoing.

The case is being looked at by the industry market-kolejowy.pl. It turns out that MP Adam Szłapka asked in an interpellation when the delayed works on the E20 railway route, i.e. Poznań – Warsaw, will end. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Bittel replied that most of the work had already been done, and the contractor still had to complete the work on LCS Kutno. The whole, on the section from Sochaczew to Swarzędz, is to be completed by the end of this year.

How long does it take to get from Poznań to Warsaw by train right now? Only a few trains cover this distance in less than 3 hours. The situation is to change in June, on the occasion of the adjustment of the timetable. Then the fastest train will cover the distance between the cities in 2 hours and 32 minutes. After the entire investment is completed, i.e. at the end of the year, express trains are to travel between Poznań and Warsaw in 2 hours and 24 minutes.

As Rynek-kolejowy.pl reminds, in 2016 the fastest train between Poznań and Warsaw took 2 hours and 25 minutes. – Between Warszawa Zachodnia and Poznań Główny, however, it ran without stopping. If it stopped along the way in Kutno and Konin, it would run in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The probable time gain for the trains, after completion of the works lasting 6 years, is therefore about 6 minutes – adds the portal.

It is worth noting that the gigantic investment, which was extended from 2.5 years to 6 years, will cost a total of PLN 2.3 billion. In response, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure emphasized that the trains may be faster in some time. On the route, works are in progress on other sections – Łowicz – Ożarów Mazowiecki and at the Warszawa Zachodnia station. Once they’re all over, there’s a chance to speed things up. He also added that the main purpose of the investment was to improve capacity and repair the platforms, not to shorten the travel time of trains.
