Russian intelligence services maintain a presence in the United States and pose a serious threat. This was stated by the director of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Christopher Ray.
“The traditional Russian counterintelligence threat is still great. The presence of Russian intelligence, by which I mean Russian intelligence officers, is still too strong in the United States,” the bureau chief said during a speech at the International Spy Museum in Washington.
In June, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Maria Zabolotskaya noted that American intelligence services are exerting psychological pressure on employees of the Russian permanent mission to the world organization. According to her, the United States continues to apply a whole range of measures and restrictions aimed at reducing the effectiveness of interaction between Russian diplomats and the UN, in particular, the recruiting approaches of the US intelligence services have intensified.
