On Friday, the longest-serving official completed 186 days
A person is a minister temporarily, but a citizen forever, explains Minekov as if to say goodbye
Thank you for six months ago showing courage, and perhaps a touch of recklessness, in agreeing to be ministers and give up your right to private peace. Despite all the attacks and problems, you showed
healthy nerves and character
in the battles we waged to return the state to the people.
Acting Prime Minister Gulab Donev addressed his ministers with these words at the last meeting of the government on Wednesday.
The 48th National Assembly will be dissolved on Friday. The president’s decree is expected on Thursday, with the same he will schedule the vote on April 2. Rumen Radev must also issue a new decree to appoint the next cabinet to organize the early elections. As Radev himself confirmed, the prime minister certainly remains the same.
At the beginning of January, Donev’s cabinet became the longest-serving cabinet so far. Friday marks 186 days since he took over from the fallen regular government of Kiril Petkov on August 2, 2022. With his second term, Donev will overtake Stefan Yanev, who spent a total of 215 days in his two terms as caretaker prime minister in 2021 .
The state belongs to the people. He who is ready to part with power at any moment rules best. The state is not for private use. In all our actions, we were guided by the constitution, the laws and the interests of the Bulgarian citizens, declared Donev on Wednesday. And he urged his ministers to “do something else useful for the people” at the last regular meeting.
Whether they will remain in their posts in the new caretaker government, most ministers claim they do not know. On Tuesday, however, a large number of them had meetings with Radev at “Dondukov” 2.
According to unconfirmed information, a reshuffle is expected in the Ministry of Culture.
“The tension was huge. It wasn’t pleasant
Unfortunately, there was really more attention here for the scandals, but you know I’m intolerant of the outrages that are going on, of the corruption that I’ve seen in the past, and the fight was too hard. It will continue this battle for a long time, because in addition to being a minister, I also continued to be a citizen. A minister is a temporary person, and a citizen – forever, until the last day,” Minekov told BNR.
For nearly a week, he has been hinting in various statements that the next in office will not have it easy. He also said that he was already wavering. This was his third time as minister of culture – he was in office in both Yanev’s offices.
Since the end of January, there has been talk of a possible change in education.
For the 6 months, the only change initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture was the increase of hours in some subjects for junior high school. The tension continued to simmer, however, with more than 400 director contests suspended due to an appeal by one of the directors against the ordinance for occupying the position. The introduction of a methodology for assessing the added value in schools, etc., was postponed.
In political circles, the name of
the presidential secretary for spirituality and culture Plamen Slavov
as an option to replace Prof. Sasho Penov.
Associate professor of history Slavov is also a teacher at PU, was a left-wing deputy for three terms, and then deputy mayor for education and culture in Karlovo. He has already participated in Radev’s governments – he was Deputy Minister of Culture in Stefan Yanev’s offices.
“I still have no information, that
it is not only a matter of desire, but also of possibilities
to whoever is invited,” said farmer Yavor Gechev.
The Minister of the Environment Rositsa Karamfilova-Blagova explained that she has many priorities and even if she does not remain a minister, she will continue to work on them in the field of ecology.
“Yesterday I met with the president, I explained to him what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning,” said Nikolai Milkov. He is ready to remain in his post if Radev decides, but so far he did not know anything about the matter. However, he said that on February 4, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Demerdzhiev will represent Bulgaria for the celebrations of the 151st anniversary of Gotse Delchev’s birth in North Macedonia. Which confirms the stay of the MIA chief.
