After the new traffic directions on rue de Fresnay, rue de Bourgneuf and rue d’Aligre, the municipality of Chartres is continuing to implement its “master plan for travel and active modes for a peaceful city”.
A public meeting was held on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the MPT du Pont-Neuf in Chartres. More than fifty residents of the sector of Petites-Filles-Dieu, Grandes-Filles-Dieu, Hubert-Latham, Bethouart and Neigre streets were present.
Guillaume Bonnet, assistant for traffic, parking and improvement of the living environment, accompanied by Maria Jebli-Chedeville, assistant for the eco-city approach, presented to the inhabitants the feedback from experimentation in this sector.
Rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu in Chartres now one-way
“Monstrous Detour”
Already one-way outgoing, rue des Petites-Filles-Dieu, which provides access to the green plan, will remain so. The rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu was made one-way entering from Champhol, in July 2021. And it is on this point, in particular, that the discontent is numerous.
“We are forced to undergo a monstrous detour to return home. Are you going to at least put the bottom of the rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu back in both directions, ”explains this forty-year-old. This request has been heard many times.
“You won’t be able to satisfy everyone, but at least can you consult the inhabitants? “adds a young mother, her baby in her arms.

“It doesn’t seem relevant to us”
“Our friends can’t come to us on rue des Petites-Filles-Dieu,” said another fifty-year-old.
“We thought of putting the two-way street back on rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu, between rue de Petites-Filles-Dieu and avenue Alexandre-Brault, specifies Guillaume Bonnet. But the firm, which made traffic projections, estimates that there would be 3,500 vehicles a day on this street along the green plan, instead of the current 1,100. This does not seem relevant to us. The meaning of our project is to create one-way streets whenever possible. »
Place Drouaise. Important work must take place this summer, place Drouaise. “The place will change enormously”, promises Guillaume Bonnet. The idea is to create, among other things, lanes reserved for buses.
Rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu. During the All Saints holidays, the pavement of the rue des Grandes-Filles-Dieu must be redone, by the departmental council, in conjunction with the town hall.
