Luffy and his Straw Hat crew depart to board Netflix. The Japanese phenomenon could soon land on the platform, but in a live-action version. Adapted into an animated series in 1999, the adventures of the pirate will once again be brought to the screen. On Netflix, a page is dedicated to the series and announces many new adventures in real shooting.

In the pipes since 2017, the series will produced by Tomorrow Studios and in close collaboration with Netflix. The SVOD platform partners with the British company behind Hanna on Amazon Prime. After a rather shy start, the project seems to be gaining momentum and we should quickly have news of this first season, which will likely contain 10 episodes. The universe created by Eiichiro Oda will be at the center of this new production, but there is nothing to indicate that it will be a faithful adaptation of manga. The platform might as well embark on writing an original script and offer a new part to the adventures of pirates. Casting side, we don’t know more at the moment but Netflix should be in charge of giving us all the information on time.
The hard game of adaptation
This series in real shooting is expected at the turn by the fans of manga. After the catastrophic Death Note movie by Netflix, the idea of an American production is not really reassuring. The teams will have to do their utmost to pay tribute to the work of the mangaka so as not to start a storm. There are many fans of the One Piece comic series and it is all the more fans that will have to be convinced. Since 2015, it has entered the Guinness Book of Records with its 320 million copies sold worldwide. As a reminder, One Piece follows the adventures of Luffy and his pirate crew in exploring the Grand Line. The character is looking for the ultimate treasure, also known as One Piece.
