The on-demand taxi service begins to operate in the Sierra Norte de Madrid
On November 11, the Community of Madrid approved the launch of the on-demand and shared taxi service in the Sierra Norte.
As of this Monday, the service that will connect 30 locations at an “affordable” price of four euros began to operate, with trips in which the same vehicle can take several people to nearby destinations.
The plan starts with a pilot project that is presented as a “complement” to the bus service of the Regional Transport Consortium.
The benefit is managed by the Mancomunidad de la Sierra Norte del Valle Lozoya and will benefit 11,000 citizens, as detailed by the Community of Madrid in a note.
The request for these on-demand taxis must be made one day before the trip, with a reservation of the route by phone or through the program’s website, in which the desired time of arrival in the municipality is indicated.
The system will reject those trips that can be made through the bus service, as long as they coincide with the requested schedules. Once all the reservations have been received, the central will offer residents a taxi option on demand, taking into account that the service may be offered at a range of one hour before or after the requested, in order to maximize the occupancy of vehicles.
The user who uses this service will pay a fee of four euros and the Community of Madrid will subsidize the rest with an item of 500,000 euros for the pilot project.
Each neighbor may carry out up to 10 services per month, which is extended to 20 in the case of belonging to a group with preferential conditions, such as the elderly or large families.
