The ombudsman urgently calls on the government to explain the consequences of deregulation decisions, the ombudsman’s office said.
As the office explained, the ombudsman’s office receives many calls and e-mails from citizens asking about government decisions to lift restrictions and the consequences they may have in the future.
The Ombudsman Juris Jansons emphasized that the adopted additional exemptions could allow for different treatment of different groups of the society.
According to the Ombudsman, the public needs an explanation of the different attitudes in certain areas, for example, why in other areas of activity the same regulation as the media is not allowed. He reminded that media-tested people with a negative result are entitled to participate in programs, but not in many other areas.
As the Ombudsman emphasized, a large part of the population is uncertain about vaccination and labor rights from the point of view of both the employee and the employer.
The Ombudsman therefore asks for a “clear explanation” as to whether an employer may make vaccination against Covid-19 a condition for the employee to be responsible for continuing the employment relationship, which is responsible for covering the costs of testing if the employee exercises the right not to be vaccinated and what to do. if it is not possible to employ an unvaccinated worker in another job where there is no direct contact with humans.
The ombudsman asks the government to provide explanations and propose solutions by June 10.
“The government must clarify the situation and offer possible solutions, not create additional moral and material burdens,” said ombudsman Juris Jansons.
