Kryukov was found guilty of violating anti-doping rules by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and was deprived of the silver medal of the Games in Sochi. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) then quashed the decision and returned the award to the skier.
Kryukov is the 2010 Olympic champion in the personal sprint, three-time world champion and the only athlete in the history of Russian skiing who has won more than two world championship titles over his career.
