iPad 2020 vs iPad 2019: 4 innovations
As every year, Apple will also release an update for the iPad in 2020. The new model is faster and more durable than its predecessor, but major changes are not forthcoming. These are the main differences between the iPad 2020 in iPad from 2019.
1. Faster
The design of the new iPad has not been altered. That’s a shame, because in 2020 Apple’s entry-level tablet looks quite dated. That’s why we only encounter the eye-catcher of the new iPad under the hood. The new entry-level model runs on the A12 Bionic processor. This is about 40 percent faster than the previous iPad chip.

The 2018 A12 processor is also included in the iPhone XR, iPhone XS in iPhone XS Max. It is therefore not Apple’s latest processor, which is most likely the A14, but compared to the A10 Bionic from the iPad 2019 it is a considerable progress.
In practical terms, this means that the new entry-level tablet is better suited for gaming, watching movies and drawing. Speaking of which: the iPad 2020 can still only handle the first generation Apple Pencil. If you absolutely want to use the Apple Pencil 2, then you better go for the iPad Air 2020.
2. Neural Engine
Furthermore, the iPad 2020 has a Neural Engine, unlike its predecessor. This may not mean much to you, but this Apple chip ensures that all kinds of artificial intelligence tasks run smoothly. For example, you use the Neural Engine while editing photos, when you use Siri or in augmented reality apps, such as those from IKEA.

3. Charge faster
When purchasing the iPad 2020 you will receive a 20 Watt charger in the package. The iPad 2019 is no longer available from Apple, but was supplied with a 10 Watt adapter. In other words: the new iPad charges much faster than its predecessor.
4. More sustainable
Apple wants to be completely CO2 neutral by 2030, which is why new products are becoming increasingly sustainable. For example, the casing of the new iPad is made of 100 percent recycled aluminum and the packaging contains wood fibers that come from sustainably managed forests.

iPad 2020 vs iPad 2019: worth switching?
So, is the iPad 2020 worth switching? It depends. Are you currently using an iPad (seventh generation) from 2019? Then the differences are minimal. The new iPad is a lot faster, but has exactly the same design, screen size and cameras. Are you looking for really big changes? Then it is probably better to wait for the next generation, or for the completely renewed (and super-fast) iPad Air 2020 look.
Are you currently using a somewhat older iPad, from 2016 or 2017, for example? Then the new iPad is definitely worth considering. Not only is it much more powerful, but it also has a larger screen, can handle Apple’s Magic Keyboard (and thus serve as a kind of laptop) and is above all still relatively cheap.
