Spring will say goodbye to the tri-state area on Monday with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures, just before the official start of summer, “astronomical summer,” on Tuesday morning.
And it is that on Tuesday the summer solstice begins at 5:13 am, considered the longest day of the year, and New York City will have it for 15 hours, 6 minutes and 33 seconds, according to the National Weather Service.
Summer arrives in our region with an increase in cloudiness as a frontal system approaches that will remain for a couple of days, the Authority on Weather said. This will bring the possibility of rain that will persist until the middle of the week.
Wednesday and Thursday will be the wettest days of the week with more than 2 inches of rain possible along with temperatures in the cooler 70s, the Weather Authority added. By Friday, conditions will improve as the sun returns and temperatures climb back into the 80s just in time for the first weekend of summer.
