The Offensive Crisis: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Struggles in the Bundesliga Season

After six match days of the new Bundesliga season, Eintracht Frankfurt’s offensive department is one of the most heavily criticized parts of the team among all 18 first division teams. The Hessians only managed four goals and thanks to their stable defense they scored seven points.

More than Kolo Muani is missing

The focus is naturally primarily on the striker position after the departure of Randal Kolo Muani. However, it would certainly be too easy to explain the lack of impact by saying that the top scorer from the previous season left the club. Last but not least, Daichi Kamada and Jasper Lindström are no longer with Eintracht. So it’s not just a striker from the top shelf that’s missing, but also the support workers. Mario Götze’s lack of form is a sufficient topic, as are the difficulties in adapting to the numerous newcomers that Frankfurt wants to form into a team.

Frankfurt is clearly at the bottom

The misery cannot be made clear by the low number of goals alone, especially since after six match days it is still subject to certain coincidences. The goalscoring statistics are more meaningful, and they paint a pretty bleak picture of Eintracht. There are just 59 degrees in the official Bundesliga statistics recorded for the SGE, this is the worst value of all 18 teams. For comparison: FSV Mainz 05 and 1.FC Köln have only scored four goals this season, but have already fired 70 and 75 shots.

Bayern are already well ahead

While exploiting opportunities is an issue for these two clubs, Frankfurt must first get into a position where it can be discussed. The offensive players don’t have to fire from all positions like their professional colleagues at FC Bayern, who are already well ahead of their pursuers with 121 shots. Bayer Leverkusen has 98 shots, the surprisingly high-ranking VfL Bochum has 96 shots. There can still be more courage and risk at Eintracht, as Dino Toppmöller recently publicly called for.
