The Obsolescence of Armored Personnel Carriers and the Debate Over Sending Them to Ukraine

“The APCs are machines that were given to the then created internal troops during the Revival process and which have not been used since then. The APCs are categorically obsolete. The army has not shown any interest in these machines”.

This was stated by Defense Minister Todor Tagarev, referring to the armored personnel carriers planned to be given to Ukraine, BGNES reported.

The Defense Committee is considering the president’s veto of the APCs for Ukraine

Tagarev specified that these are heavy machines that are also expensive to maintain.

“To protect the border, you need high-terrain equipment,” pointed out the Minister of Defense, taking into account the limitations of heavy wheeled armored personnel carriers.

“The armored personnel carriers are the property of the Ministry of the Interior. What the president presents as arguments is related to their potential use for border protection and actions in the event of disasters and accidents,” Tagarev explained, after the head of state Rumen Radev vetoed the act, which was voted from the National Assembly to give the 100 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
