The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, assured that they never had the objective of preventing the passage of the migrant caravan to the capital, but rather that their entry was orderly. The foregoing, after the conflict this Sunday on the Mexico-Puebla highway between elements of the SSC and members of the migrant caravan, which left a month ago from Chiapas, and who are currently in the Casa del Peregrino, in the Mayor Gustavo A. Madero.
“The objective was not to prevent the passage, never, the objective was to order the entry of migrants to Mexico City, they were offered the shelter [de Santa Martha] and they preferred to go to the Basilica.
“The objective is that they were going to go there and they got buses and they could go directly without having to walk through Zaragoza, that is where this moment of tension between the police and migrants occurs, while they were talking [con los líderes] on the other side of this issue, “he said.
In a conference in the company of the Secretary of Government, Martí Batres, Sheinbaum Pardo pointed out that the police operation will be reviewed “in all senses” and added that “it could hardly have been abuse” by the police elements towards the migrants, since most of the injured were members of the SSC, in addition to the fact that they only carried shields, without helmets, as they did not expect this response from the group of foreigners.
