The president of the Valencian Courts, Enric Morera, received this Wednesday the director of the Anti-Fraud Agency, Joan Llinares, to analyze the progress against corruption and the “recovery of reputational credit” of the Valencian institutions. Morera and Llinares have discussed the incidence of the entity’s work in the transposition of European regulations to the internal sphere of the Valencian administration and also to companies.
Spain must adapt to its legislation, before December of this year, the European Commission directive on the protection of whistleblowers of corruption, which includes providing legal or psychological assistance to whistleblowers (alerters) in cases of fraud, as stated in the pioneer Anti-Fraud Agency in a conference organized on the occasion of the International Day against Corruption.
The president of the Valencian Parliament has declared that “the agency created in the last legislature has taken very important steps and has positioned us as the leading autonomy in the prevention of corruption and fraud of the institutions. In fact, we have to take into account that with the creation of the agency we are three years ahead of the European standard in this regard and we continue to be the guide of anti-fraud agencies throughout the State. ” Morera highlighted the protection guaranteed by the body led by Joan Llinares for witnesses who report corruption cases.
Llinares recalled that the Anti-Fraud Agency has been the forerunner in the creation of a network of Spanish agencies and that it works very closely with the European EPAC-ACN network. All these actions, according to Morera, “have contributed a lot to the recovery of the reputational credit of Valencian public institutions”. The reduction of crimes in the public sphere registered in the last memory of the Valencian Prosecutor’s Office is proof, in the opinion of the president of the Valencian Courts, of the good work of Antifraud.
At the meeting, both managers have analyzed aspects that can improve the accessibility and democratic quality of Valencian institutions. The director of the Anti-Fraud Agency has informed Morera that he plans to present the 2020 report to the regional chamber during next April.
