The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), headed by Uruguayan Luis Almagro, condemned this Saturday the decision of the Ecuadorian National Police to break into the Mexican embassy in Quito and arrest Jorge Glas, former vice president of Rafael Correa (2007-2017).
In a statement, the General Secretariat of the OAS expressed its rejection of “any action that violates or puts at risk” the inviolability enjoyed by diplomatic missions and reiterated the “obligation” that all States have not to invoke rules of law. to justify non-compliance with its international obligations.
In this context, the General Secretariat expressed its “solidarity with those who were victims of the inappropriate actions that affected the Mexican embassy in Ecuador.”
Almagro, this Saturday, asked for “dialogue” between Mexico and Ecuador and anticipated that he will request a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council to address the tensions between both countries.
In a statement, the General Secretariat of the OAS, headed by Almagro, called “for dialogue between the parties to resolve their differences” and considered a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council “necessary.”
