Washington, Oct 29 (EFE).- The Organization of American States (OAS) announced this Tuesday the deployment of electoral observers in 13 states of the United States to monitor the presidential elections on November 5 between the Democrat, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Republican, former President Donald Trump (2017-2021).

The Electoral Observation Mission, led by the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, is made up of 42 experts from 14 countries, the organization detailed in a statement.

Observers will be present in the District of Columbia, which houses the capital, and in 13 states in the country, including Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin, which are four of the pivotal states that will decide the elections.

There will also be staff in California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska and Virginia.

Its task will be to follow up on issues related to electoral organization and technology, voting by mail, electoral justice, party financing, and the political participation of women, indigenous people, and people of African descent.

The mission has already begun to meet with electoral authorities, officials and party representatives, and will visit voting centers in the different states on election day from the opening to the closing of the polling stations.

It is the third time that the OAS observes an electoral process in the United States and plans to issue a report with observations and recommendations.

Brazil, South Korea, Morocco, the Netherlands, Panama and the Dominican Republic financed the observation mission.
