Cases of nurses infected after receiving the second dose of the vaccine. It happened in Lombardy and the Nursing Up, which asks for clarity: “We express legitimate concern about what has happened in the last few hours in the Lombardy Region, in relation to the case of some nurses who tested positive for Covid again after the second dose of the vaccine. This was announced by the management of the Health Commission, “liquidating” the incident as widely expected in that risk factor of 5% recognized for drugs like Pfizer, officially effective “only” up to 95%.
We cannot be satisfied with the hasty way in which Marco Salmoiraghi, Vicar General Welfare Director of the Region, justified what happened, bringing the episode back as absolutely “normal and expected”. We are the first to want to avoid alarmism, but situations like this deserve further investigation and careful investigation. As a Union that protects the health of Italian nurses, we have the duty to ask that the Ministry of Health and the Regions take immediate action to understand if we are facing sporadic episodes which, for us, in any case, represent a vulnerability in the effectiveness vaccine immunity. An important problem, which must be manned and monitored.
So Antonio De Palma, National President of Nursing Up, asks that the Government and Regions shed light on what is happening, it would seem that not only in Lombardy there have been cases of nurses infected again after the second administration of the vaccine, and precisely on this the union is conducting due checks.
“At this precise juncture, without further investigation, De Palma continues, we cannot be certain that in the face of new infections from colleagues already subjected to the second dose of the vaccine, it is always that anticipated risk that we were all aware of.
We therefore ask that a continuous and systematic screening of staff be put into action, not only with the expected serological tests and complete swabs at least every two weeks, but above all we ask that the nurses already vaccinated are periodically subjected to monitoring the antibody titer.
Now we need to be aware of how many of the vaccinated nurses really are those with insufficient antibody titers to guarantee their immunity. We are talking about those most prone to potential new infections, which could even go unnoticed, so that we do not forget that according to the prevailing scientific guidelines, vaccination can make the symptoms less striking in case of re-infection, up to even concealing it. , a more or less wide channel of symptoms.
The emergency is not over: the variants of the virus are looming. The strategies of our government must aim to have more and more types of vaccines available. Not to mention the delays of the Arcuri plan and the low quantity of doses.
The nurses will never stop fighting, but we must protect them, every day, because they are and will be the pivot of this battle until the end ».
