The associative crèche “Tifrioul”, in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille, had been closed since May 18 after Kalashnikov fire. Relief for parents, it partially reopened on Monday.
A quicker solution than expected. On Wednesday May 18, several individuals fired in the air in front of the premises of the associative nursery “Tifrioul”, in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille. Inside, 42 children whose parents were called urgently.
Since this incident, the association “L’Île aux enfants” which manages the structure had maintained the closure of the premises, located in the city of Solidarity. A “Difficult situation” for many parents without a custody solution which ends this Monday, May 30. The establishment has reopened for 24 toddlers.
“We are really happy. We struggled too muchsays a mother of two boys. My husband and I are working, it’s been almost since the closing that my husband can no longer work. He has to stay with the children, I can’t, suddenly it was a bit of a hassle, we were afraid that my husband would be fired. We were crying. When we came home in the evening, we had a lump in our stomachs.
We cannot close structures, services, because of insecurity.
For this father of a family, there was “not much alarming”, “little shots”, “usual thing in the neighborhoods”. “We were left ten days without care, it was really painful for us. Now we salute the work of Samia Ghali and everything else for having reopened the crèche”.
“There is insecurity (…), but it is everywhere todaysays another mother. We cannot close structures, services, because of insecurity”.
“The watchword is to continue, we owe the inhabitants to assume a minimum of public service. I have the impression that it was a bit of a good excuse to leave us without news overnight because that honestly, two hours later life in the neighborhood resumed”.
“All the employees said during the meeting in the prefecture that they wanted to return to workreports Hedi Ramdane, deputy of the town hall of 15/16. So why did this structure decide to lock the doors? We couldn’t leave the door closed… Tomorrow is it squatted by whom? We are 300 meters from Kallisté park.”

Next door, another mother was able to put down RTT days for a “surge of solidarity” to her job, which allowed her to keep her son. But this morning, the concern persists. “I am happy with its openness, only it is not said that today we are welcoming my child.”
Due to a lack of staff, the nursery has set up in rotation to accommodate children in smaller numbers. Eleven families were offered another childcare solution. “I was not contacted when I thought I would have priority given that with my husband we both work… We will see what is going on this morning”.
The current manager of the Tifrioul establishment comes from Hyères and manages five crèches in the city of Marseille. “Following the incidents, he no longer wishes to continue to operate his equipment, which poses a problem for us because we cannot leave 42 cradles like that unoccupied”explains Sophie Guérard, deputy delegate for “the place of the child in the city”.
During previous meetings, a reopening of the crèche was not envisaged before June 7. But the date could be brought forward.
“All the public authorities meet several times a week to see how we make a smooth transition between this manager who no longer wants and a new manager who would be the buyer. There, we are on a week of transition, there are agents of the staff of the two managers making the transition”, says Sophie Guérard.
A new meeting takes place on Wednesday with the prefect for equal opportunities, Laurent Carrié. “This will be the 4th where we will once again be all the players in early childhood together, i.e. the department, the PMI (Protection Maternal et Infantile), the SMAPE (Service des modes d’accueil de la early childhood), the City, the CAF. It’s rare.”
The city hopes to reopen on Tuesday June 7 with the new manager who should be La Ligue de l’enseignement.
In addition, the investigation into the Kalashnikov shootings continues. Three suspects aged 20 to 25 were arrested and taken into custody.
