Between January 11 and 17, doctors in the county faced 455 cases of respiratory infections, of which 396 were viruses and 59 pneumonias. Compared to the situation reported to the Vaslui Public Health Directorate (DSP) in the week of January 4-10, when there were 543 respiratory infections (440 viruses and 103 pneumonias), there is a decrease of about 16% (88 cases). However, only a small part of the people diagnosed with such upper respiratory tract diseases were hospitalized, respectively 27 of those with viruses and 4 of those with pneumonia.
In viruses, the highest incidence was registered in the age groups 5 – 14 years (110 cases), 15 – 49 years (111 cases) and 2 – 4 years (64 cases), the share of hospitalizations being among people over 50 years. Regarding the 59 pneumonias reported last week, the highest incidence was in the age groups 15-49 years (19 cases), 50-64 years and in people over 65 years (25 cases). Even in terms of hospitalizations, there are not very big differences between one age group and another, especially since, in total, there were only four hospitalized patients.
Fortunately, so far there have been no cases of influenza in the county. For the cold season 2020-2021, DSP Vaslui requested from the Ministry of Health 84,439 doses of influenza vaccine and, until last week, 81,816 doses were received in several tranches. In total, until January 17, 46,101 doses were administered in the county.
As in previous years, the flu vaccination campaign is carried out in family doctors’ offices and in beds with sanitary units, and people over 65 will be immunized with priority, with chronic diseases, especially respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, diseases metabolic pathways, namely institutionalized children and the elderly, pregnant women and medical staff.
