ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The tension on the labor market seems to have passed its peak: for the first time in two years, the number of vacancies is declining. Unemployment is also on the rise, according to Statistics Netherlands.
There were almost 450,000 vacancies at the end of September, 17,000 fewer than at the end of the second quarter. Fewer people have been sought, especially in trade and catering, although more than 128,000 people are still missing in these two branches.
Despite the decrease, there is still a strain on the labor market, which means that there are more vacancies than unemployed. In the sectors of healthcare, transport, storage and education, for example, shortages even increased slightly compared to the previous quarter.
To investigate the shortage in the labor market, Statistics Netherlands looks at the number of vacancies per 100 unemployed. They can currently choose from 121 vacancies:
Statistics Netherlands not only looked at the number of vacancies, but also at the number of existing jobs. This is still increasing, especially the self-employed are filling them up more and more often. There is less work in the temporary agency work sector.
The number of flexible contract employees decreased by nearly 100,000 from the prior quarter. This is mainly due to the fact that they have taken on permanent employment.
